Our Story
It all started with Judy Edwards and her struggle with chronic constipation.
Judy spent decades suffering from uncomfortable digestive issues, trying every pill, tea, and remedy on the market with zero relief. After researching human physiology and how traditional squatting posture supports natural bowel movements, she realized the modern raised Western toilet was the root of her discomfort. Our standard toilets kink the colon, blocking full elimination and creating long-term gut trouble.
With her husband Bill and son Bobby Edwards, the family set out to design a simple, affordable stool that recreates the natural squat position while using a standard toilet. In 2011, the Original Squatty Potty was born in their small St. George, Utah garage.
The Viral Unicorn Ad & Global Growth
The brand stayed small and local until partnering with Harmon Brothers to create our legendary unicorn educational video. The whimsical, funny 3-minute animation broke the internet, hitting over 140 million views worldwide. Sales exploded overnight—600% online growth and 400% retail expansion into chains like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Walmart. We went from a family garage project to an international bathroom wellness brand shipping to millions of homes across North America, Europe, and Australia.

At Squatty Potty, our core mission is simple: improve global bathroom and digestive health for every person.
- We design ergonomic, stylish bathroom wellness products that align your colon for easier, healthier bowel movements, backed by peer-reviewed medical research and gastroenterologist endorsements.
- We prioritize sustainable manufacturing: all wooden stools use renewable bamboo, eucalyptus, oak, and teak; packaging is fully recyclable, and we cut single-use plastic wherever possible.
- We donate a portion of all annual revenue to nonprofits that raise awareness for gut health, digestive disorders, and functional gastrointestinal disease support.
